Geographical Indications Summit is led by Ankara Chamber of Commerce

A geographical indication (GI) is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin. In order to function as a GI, a sign must identify a product as originating in a given place. (For example: Gaziantep Baklava, Taşköprü Garlic, Finike Orange, Kars Cheese etc.)


Geographical Indications (GIs) has become a strategic instrument on rural and economic development to boost production, to ensure sustainability in rural employment and to increase the ratio of value added products. "Geographical Indications" (GIs) has reached a market value of more than 200 Billion U.S.  Dollar in Europe, U.S.A and developed countries. In this respect, Turkey has made a breakthrough to expand the market and to develop commercial and bilateral relations with the countries which it is open to cooperation with.


In the light of the above facts, Ankara Chamber of Commerce organized "Geographical Indication Products Summit" on 28th - 29th of April 2017 in order to investigate the reasons for neglected economic value of Geographical Indication products and to raise awareness on the subject matter.


Ankara Chamber of Commerce, shall carry out the activities related with Geographical Indications and organize another summit in 2018.
